Indianapolis Habitual Traffic Violation Attorney

Do you have numerous traffic offense convictions? You may be at risk of losing your driver’s license if you are deemed a habitual traffic violator (HTV). An HTV license suspension is an administrative suspension levied by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). It is based on a combination of your criminal and traffic infraction history.

Your attorney must understand HTV law and how it may apply to your driving history. At The Law Office of John L. Tompkins, we have considerable experience with serious traffic offense cases. Our attorney can determine whether an additional traffic conviction will result in an HTV. For a consultation with an Indianapolis habitual traffic violation lawyer, please call 317-631-6866

You Can Lose Your License For Five Or 10 Years

The HTV license suspension is in addition to any license suspension you may have received from a criminal conviction. HTV suspensions can be five or 10 years:

Five-year suspension

Within 10 years, convictions for nine minor traffic offenses and one major traffic offense, which is usually criminal and may include:

  • Reckless driving
  • OVWI/OWI
  • Driving while license suspended
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
Ten-year suspension

Three criminal/major traffic offense convictions within 10 years.

While many people who become habitual traffic violators have one or more OWI convictions, it is possible to receive an HTV suspension without an OWI offense on your record. This is why it is important that your attorney takes your entire driving and traffic offense history into consideration.
